2001
Click on photos for larger image and more information. I spent much of Sping 2001 mounting and framing drawings for two outdoor events in Richmond. On April 28th I was at 17th Street for the "2nd Annual Shockoe Arts Festival" where I sold 14 of my drawings to folks from around Virginia. On May 5th and 6th, I will be at the 30th annual "Arts in the Park" festival at Byrd Park. I am also starting a new series based on memories from a strange past event. I've completed two drawings in this series is called Breckenridge Incident. My Formations: Another View series was on exhibit in July at Artspace gallery in Richmond, VA along with some other works including Dog Daze, Snake Painting, and Hideaway. I sold A Break in the Clouds and Cityscape during the exhibition. I started drawings for various series I will be painting in the coming years. For "Childhood Memories" I drew studies in oil pastel called Exploring the Tunnel and Orca Balloon at Ridge. For "Old Man and Dog" I did two studies. I also did a study for "Strange Memories" called By the Side of the Road. After a trip to London in September, I spent a lot of time working on coordinating the "International Miniature Invitational Exhibition" at Artspace. I helped the curator, Chuck Scalin, get the artists lined up and organized the work while it was in the gallery before and after the exhibit. I coordinated the donations of food from local restaurants and bakeries for a preview show along with the publicity for the events. The show was a tremendous success for the gallery and I even sold a miniature mosaic I did for the event called "Minerva in Miniature." I began working on the paintings for and before leaving for London and continued working on these paintings through the end of the year and into 2002. After the Mini show was in order I painted two scenes from the Stonehenge monument and another small painting (part of the "Industrial Sites" group) in acrylic. Then, I began 4 more oil paintings for "Industrial Sights" finishing two before the end of the year. |
