Best of Dana's Halloween Costumes & Other Spooky Stuff halloween 2000 I love to put up my graveyard around Halloween every year. From time to time, I take photos of the installation for documentation purposes. This year, I got more than I bargained for ...
Ghostly Image in My Graveyard This photo seems to show a ghostly blur in the foreground and a couple of streaks to the right of the picture. When you enlarge the photo (click on it) you can also see a skeleton face reflecting from the top left of the front right window. Strangely enough, if you look below, you will see that this face in the window looks just like the makeup I decided to wear for this year's visit to the Great Pumpkin Festival at Richmond's Shockoe Bottom. Ironically, I didn't get the photos of my graveyard developed until well after Halloween was over.
Just Moments Later ... Gone! Although the first photo seems to be a genuine image of a ghost, some facts must be noted. First, the ghost photo was the first exposure on the roll of film, so some light leakage could have damaged the film. However, this was shot with an automatic camera using APS film. No film is ever outside of the canister unless it is inside the camera. Second, and most importantly, neither photo shows the total reality of the scene because I have tried to block out the sunlight which was glaring over the top of the house into the camera. In the first photo, the angle of the lens was pointed more toward the sky, and so more light was streaming into it. The second photo was pointed lower and effectively shielded the lens from the glare.
