biographical information

Born and raised in Richmond, VA, Dana Frostick has always focused her life around creating artwork. She and her twin sister Donna studied art intensively from pre-elementary through high school, pushing each other to excel beyond the other's achievements. Both fixated on painting as a primary medium in their teens. While attending VCU in the early-mid '80's, Frostick focused on sculpture in order to expand her knowledge of the 3rd dimension, but remained dedicated to painting throughout.

Frostick enjoyed a lengthy career at Richmond Newspapers from 1982-1998, in pre-press design and then in online publishing. It was here that Frostick met her 2nd husband, Richard Cornwell, who facilitated her pursuit of art on a full-time basis. Since then, she has exhibited her work in solo and group shows in Richmond, around Virginia, and in venues in New York, Omaha, and Washington, D.C. Since 2000, Frostick has been a member of artspace, a non-profit gallery for visual and performing arts, located in Richmond. She served as the gallery's president from 2004-2005 and has been the webmaster for their website, artspacegallery.org, since 2000.

awesome "facts"
mostly true stuff about the artist

"Many are called, but few are chosen."
-- Matthew 22:14

The Egyptian Goddess Bast is a fickle mistress and yet has entrusted Dana Frostick in Her Infernal Service. In the free time granted her between the needs of her 6 cats* and her constant cycling to and fro (She also performs annual feats of strength and courage. Last year she swam the English Channel and the video of her 2004 feat, wherein she battles a great white barehanded, is one of the most viewed videos on youtube), she is awesome, and sometimes paints.

"Painting is not a desire, it is a necessity."
-- Dana Frostick

Frostick was raised with her clone in Henrico County, a suburb of Richmond, VA (where they were born). Attempts to control her clone's behavior have been largely unproductive with the exception of her DNA being passed on with the clone's assistance, allowing her own maternal instincts to more fully focus on the needs of Bast's charges (and paint some more). Frostick is a widely (self-) acclaimed collector of freaks, constantly in search of more slack. Her greatest claim to fame is having her name mentioned immediately following Jello Biafra's on GWAR's "Beyond Hell" liner notes.

"I yam what I yam, and I ain't no sweet potato."
-- Dana Frostick

Frostick has determined that there is no point in being any older than 42 and has since that time decided to age backwards. Dana Frostick continues to paint and she is awesome.

* It is telling that she refers to them as her "kids."
